FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • When should I consider speech therapy for my child?

If you notice any delays or difficulties in your child's speech or language development, we always suggest consulting with a speech therapist. Common signs include trouble forming words, speech that is hard for others to understand, limited vocabulary, stuttering, difficulty understanding or following directions, and challenges with social situations.

  • What ages do you work with?

We work with children from infancy through adolescence, addressing a wide range of speech and language needs at various developmental stages. Here at Simply Spoken Therapy we most commonly treat children from 15 months to 15 years.

  • How long does a speech therapy session last, and how frequent are the sessions?

Typically, sessions last around 30 minutes with the last 5 minutes for parent communication and home program coordination. Your therapist will provide detailed professional recommendations at the end of your evaluation session. The frequency might range from once a week to multiple times a week, depending on the severity of the speech or language issues. We want services to work for your family so we will discuss and make a decision on frequency together.

  • How soon can we get started?

Once your evaluation appointment is completed, services will start within 2 weeks! Your clinician will take one week to write the report and plan of care that will be sent to you via our secure client portal prior to your first treatment session.

  • What qualifications do the speech therapists at the clinic have?

All of our SLP’s hold a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, have completed (or are completing) a post-graduate clinical fellowship and have passed the national Praxis exam. All SLP’s will hold their Certificate of Clinician Competence, a nationally recognized professional credential that represents a level of excellence in the field of Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).

  • How is progress measured during speech therapy?

Progress is assessed through regular evaluations, data collection, observations, and parent communication. We use a variety of standardized tests, informal assessments, and progress monitoring tools to track a child's progress towards their specific goals. Parents are often involved in the assessment process, providing valuable insights into their child's communication skills at home.

  • What types of speech and language disorders are treated at the clinic?

We do our very best work with the following disorders: speech sound disorders, Late talking toddlers, social communication disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), sensory feeding issues and AAC.

  • Do parents/caregivers play a role in the therapy process?

Yes! Parental involvement is crucial and encouraged! At Simply Spoken Therapy we often provide parents with strategies and exercises to practice at home, fostering a supportive environment for your child's communication development. By working on skills at home, you are promoting generalization and making it easier for your child to maintain their new skills.

  • Is insurance accepted, and how much will it cost?

We are in-network providers with Blue Cross Blue Shield, United HealthCare, UMR, and Cigna. We have found that all insurance policies are different and will always verify your benefits on your behalf prior to an evaluation appointment.

If you would like to pay out of pocket for services our discounted cash rates are $220 for an evaluation and $84 per treatment session.

We are not in-network with the state of Wisconsin and are unable to accept clients with Medicaid (BadgerCare, ForwardHealth). However, we are always happy to provide you with recommendations to other local clinics who accept your specific insurance.

  • How can I schedule an appointment for my child?

To schedule an appointment, you can contact the clinic directly by phone, through the contact page on our website or by scheduling your intake phone consultation located on our home page. Our staff will guide you through the intake process, how to access the portal, and what documentation is required.
